Just found out it was a Kentucky librarian!  Emily Northcutt!  Yay for librarians!

A coworker and friend of mine who bought AWAY was reading it at work today while on her break.  When she came back to the office, she said, with a big grin, "I just met Nipper. "  It made me smile to hear one of the characters in AWAY described that way--like a real personality in the world.  Still smiling now.
